Oued Khelafoun is located in the El Beïdh region, within the municipality of El Besbes, in the wilaya of Ouled Djellal.
Under the former administrative division, the area was part of Biskra Wilaya until 11 December 2019, when the new administrative division established Ouled Djellal as a separate wilaya.
The Battle of Oued Khelafoun took place following a sweeping operation conducted by the French colonial forces in the region, during which they discovered the presence of a unit of the National Liberation Army (ALN) in Oued Khelafoun. The enemy forces then moved towards the unit’s position, reaching the area on 7 November 1956, where they engaged in a fierce battle with the moudjahidine, whose number did not exceed 21 fighters.
The battle lasted from ten o’clock in the morning until evening. It resulted in heavy losses among the colonial forces, estimated at approximately 200 dead and wounded. On the side of the National Liberation Army, six moudjahidine fell as martyrs, while two others sustained serious injuries.
