The Regional Museum of the Mujahid of Biskra is a public institution with an administrative, cultural and historical character. It was established pursuant to Executive Decree No. 08-170 of 7 Jumada al-Thani 1429 AH, corresponding to 11 June 2008, establishing six regional museums across the national territory. The Regional Museum of the Mujahid of Biskra was named after one of the prominent figures of the region, Colonel Mohamed Chaabani. It comprises nine branches located in the present-day administrative wilayas of Ouargla, Touggourt, Djelfa, Laghouat, El Oued, M’Sila, Ghardaïa, Tamanrasset and Illizi.

The museum was officially inaugurated on 28 February 2009.

This historical and cultural institution is located in the northwestern part of the city of Biskra. It is bordered to the north by the 726 Housing District, and to the south by the 1,000 Housing District, the House of Traditional Crafts, El Hakim Saâdane Secondary School, and the Judicial Council.

Internal Organization

Pursuant to the Joint Ministerial Order of 22 Dhu al-Hijjah 1429 AH, corresponding to 20 December 2008, establishing the internal organization of the Regional Museums of the Mujahid, which operate under the authority of the Director, the museum is organized into three departments and six services, as follows:

1. Department of Collection, Inventory, Recovery, Restoration and Conservation

  • Service for the Collection, Inventory and Recovery of Historical and Cultural Collections.
  • Service for the Restoration and Conservation of Historical and Cultural Collections.

2. Department of Information, Cultural Activities, Dissemination and Exhibitions

  • Service for Publications, Dissemination and Research Relating to Historical and Cultural Collections.
  • Service for Cultural Activities, Information, Exhibitions and Documentation.

3. Department of Administration and General Resources

  • Personnel Management Service.
  • Budget, Accounting, General Resources and Security Service.
