History bears witness to the fact that the Touggourt region never ceased to resist from the moment the French coloniser set foot on its territory. Despite numerous attempts to impose colonial rule, the region remained an important centre of resistance activities, witnessing numerous guerrilla operations and armed clashes with the colonial forces.

The Museum of the Mujahid of Touggourt Wilaya stands as a living repository of memory. It houses an extensive collection of photographs, historical artefacts, documents and testimonies that document the achievements of its people and the struggles undertaken by its sons and daughters during the Algerian Revolution.
