Museum of the Mujahid of Tamanrasset Wilaya

The Tamanrasset region knew no respite from the moment the French coloniser set foot on its territory. Despite repeated attempts to impose colonial control, the region remained a stronghold of resistance and a theatre of various forms of struggle against the occupation, which deployed every available means and weapon in an effort to subdue it.

The people of the region made a significant contribution to supporting the Algerian Revolution, drawing on Tamanrasset’s strategic position and geographical importance. The region served as Algeria’s gateway to its African hinterland and as a vital space for communication and movement between the northern part of the country and the regions of sub-Saharan Africa.

The Museum of the Mujahid of Tamanrasset Wilaya houses a rich collection of photographs, historical artefacts, documents and historical testimonies documenting important aspects of the region’s history during the Algerian Revolution. The collection also highlights the sacrifices made by its people and their contribution to the national struggle against French colonialism.
