Museum of the Mujahid of Laghouat Wilaya

The wilaya of Laghouat was one of the important regions of the Algerian Revolution. Armed resistance in the region began from the early years of the French occupation, owing in particular to its strategic position between the northern and southern parts of the country.

The region witnessed several battles and operations against the French forces. It also served as an organisational centre for the National Liberation Front (FLN) and the National Liberation Army (ALN), as well as a transit point for the movement of weapons and the transmission of information between different regions. Laghouat gave many martyrs in the struggle for independence, reflecting the sacrifices made by its people for Algeria’s independence.

The Museum of the Mujahid of Laghouat Wilaya houses an extensive collection of photographs, historical artefacts, documents and testimonies documenting the history of the region during the Algerian Revolution.
