Museum of the Mujahid of Ghardaïa Wilaya

The wilaya of Ghardaïa made an active contribution to the success and continuation of the Algerian Revolution, owing to its distinctive and strategic location as a gateway to the Algerian Sahara. Following the Soummam Congress, the Ghardaïa region was incorporated into the historical Wilaya VI, corresponding to the southern region of Algeria.

Its prominent role was reflected in the number of its martyrs who fell in combat against the French colonial forces, both within its own territory and in other parts of Algeria, as well as in the large number of battles fought in the region.

The Ghardaïa region served as a refuge for the Mujahideen and as a centre for securing and supplying weapons. It also provided a considerable number of Mujahideen who operated both within and beyond the region, carried out numerous armed operations, and took part in many battles against the French colonial forces from the outbreak of the Revolution until victory was achieved.

The Museum of the Mujahid of Ghardaïa Wilaya stands as a living repository of memory. It houses an extensive collection of photographs, historical artefacts, documents and testimonies that recount the history of the region during the Algerian Revolution and preserve the memory of the achievements and sacrifices of its people.
