The Wilaya of Biskra played a prominent role in the Algerian Revolution, owing to its strategic geographical location, which made it a vital link between the inland regions and Algeria’s eastern borders. This strategic position facilitated the movement of the mujahideen, as well as the transportation of weapons and supplies needed to support the Revolution.
Its population actively contributed to numerous military operations against French colonial forces. At the time, Biskra was part of the historic Wilaya of Constantine. It also served as an important center of popular resistance and a launching point for several major attacks against the colonial forces.
The Biskra Wilaya Museum of the Mujahid houses a rich collection of photographs, historical artifacts, documents, and testimonies that recount the major stages and significant historical events experienced by the region.
