The wilaya of Illizi was one of the strongholds of popular resistance and the National Liberation Revolution. It was not merely a route for the passage of weapons and supplies, but also a true reservoir of the liberation struggle and resistance movements, from the resistance led by Sheikh Amoud to the battles fought in the region during the Liberation Revolution.

The Museum of the Mujahid of Illizi Wilaya houses an extensive collection of photographs, historical artefacts, documents and testimonies that recount the history of the region and commemorate the heroism of its people during the Algerian Revolution.
