The wilaya of El-Oued was one of the regions that made an active contribution to the Algerian Revolution, playing an important role in the struggle against French colonial rule. Its geographical position gave it strategic importance, facilitating the movement of revolutionaries and the transfer and exchange of supplies between the eastern and southern regions of Algeria.

The region provided numerous Mujahideen who took part in military operations against the French occupation. It also served as a refuge for Mujahideen pursued by the colonial forces. The wilaya witnessed fierce battles that inflicted heavy losses on the enemy and demonstrated the courage and steadfastness of the Mujahideen. In addition, El-Oued served as an important centre for communication and coordination among the various revolutionary forces operating across different regions of Algeria.

The Museum of the Mujahid of El-Oued Wilaya is a valuable historical repository. It houses a rich collection of photographs, historical artefacts, documents and first-hand testimonies that provide an overview of the major stages and historical events experienced by the region during the Algerian Revolution.
