It traces the course of the Revolution from its outbreak, together with the development of revolutionary organisation and action and the spread of the armed struggle across the different regions of Algeria. It also highlights the pivotal role played by the National Liberation Front (FLN) and the National Liberation Army (ALN) in leading the Revolution, organising its ranks and coordinating the efforts of the moudjahidine.
The space presents the major historical milestones that shaped the course of the Revolution, most notably the 20 August 1955 offensives and the Soummam Congress of 20 August 1956, as well as the political and military developments that followed and contributed to strengthening the Revolution and bringing the Algerian question to the international arena.
It also focuses on the decisive stages that led to the Évian negotiations and the ceasefire agreements of 19 March 1962, culminating in Algeria’s restoration of independence on 5 July 1962, after more than seven years of struggle and sacrifice.
The photographs, documents, artefacts and historical testimonies displayed in this space recount chapters of the struggle waged by the moudjahidine and the sacrifices made by the martyrs. They also highlight the contribution of the Algerian people, who embraced and supported the Revolution and stood steadfast in the face of the various forms of colonial repression.
It is the story of a glorious Revolution through which the Algerian people embodied their determination to achieve freedom and independence, and through the sacrifices of its martyrs and moudjahidine, inscribed an enduring page in the history of Algeria.
